Shey Palace near shey village was actually built during mid 16 th century AD by the then King of Ladhak availed as summer capital, withstanding almost as heritage ruin of the past due to neglect, later being converted to a Monastery as appeared, while renovation is taking place. Located on the highway about 15 KM from Ley towards Thikse Monastery at an altitude of about 11,200 ft or little more, at the footstep there is a holy lake. We were at the place on 30.05.2015 to be precise, a copper gold statue of Shakyamuni Lord Buddha and stone statue of Lord Buddha inside the temple can be seen, a beautiful view point from the top of the Palace & Monastery.
